Job Opportunity: Senior Engineer

Exciting opportunity alert! Caterham Cars is seeking a dynamic Senior Engineer to join our team at our Dartford headquarters, nestled on the border of Kent and Greater London.

The ideal candidate will possess a deep-seated passion for engineering, particularly within the automotive and motorsport sectors. This fervor should shine through both their professional track record and personal ventures.

As a Senior Engineer, you’ll be tasked with overseeing a diverse array of projects, managing project teams, and providing mentorship to junior staff members. You’ll have direct accountability for engineering initiatives and activities, ensuring their successful execution.

Key Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ post-graduate experience in relevant industries such as automotive, motorcycle, or motorsport.
  • Demonstrable expertise in various aspects of whole vehicle engineering, including but not limited to design for fabrication, electrical wiring, data logging, engine calibration, 3D printing, and reverse engineering.
  • Bachelor’s degree (BEng) in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering with a minimum 2:1 classification.
  • Proficiency in CAD software, preferably Solidworks.
  • Extensive experience in 3D modeling, technical drawing, and assembly construction.
  • Strong grasp of engineering data control and release processes.
  • Familiarity with bill of materials (BOM) validation and modification.
  • Some prior experience in mentoring and guiding junior colleagues.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office tools and project management software.
  • Exposure to Type Approval and homologation processes is advantageous.
  • Understanding of the complete development cycle, from design brief to production introduction.
  • Software coding experience and project management skills are beneficial.
  • Commercial acumen.

About You:

  • Engaging in relevant extracurricular activities.
  • A collaborative team player with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Well-versed in vehicle engineering across various domains.
  • Effective communication skills for internal and external interactions.
  • Proactive with a sense of urgency.
  • Willingness to shoulder responsibilities.

While the role is based at our Dartford headquarters, it may necessitate occasional out-of-hours travel within and outside the UK for agent visits, supplier engagements, and support during test days and race weekends. Given our operations span two sites, occasional travel between them may also be required.

Salary and Benefits:

We offer a competitive salary commensurate with experience. Following a probationary period, employees become eligible for a range of benefits, including enrollment in the Company Pension Scheme, DIS coverage, and staff purchase discounts.

Our holiday allowance starts at 22 days annually, increasing to a maximum of 27 days. Work hours are Monday to Thursday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and Friday, 8:30 am to 1:30 pm. We operate a flexitime policy allowing up to 1 hour offset in core hours per day, with some work-from-home arrangements available.
